Athletes. Nature or Nuture?

As a life time participant in sports I get to meet a lot of different athletes in a lot of different sports. I have met all kinds of people with different skill sets and body types. I've met people ranging from 6'10 285 lbs or 6'5 350lbs all the way to 5'3 105 lbs and it made me wonder are athletes born or raised? There is obviously a physical aspect involved when it comes your body type but is that all that matters? there have been many small or otherwise "undersized" people that have gone on to become Great athletes even when people told them they couldn't. So perhaps it is the way the people are raised. Having someone to lead by example and push you to reach your potential can make all the difference. Personally I think the combination of genetics and upbringing are the main differences make in creating athletes. Regardless of height weight or body type I believe it is possible for anyone to become a great athlete as long as they have the will and determination to do so.

The Human Body

I had a lecture from my physiology professor today about nerves and as class progress I dozed off into a daydream thinking about the masterpiece that is the human body.
here are a few statistics that I found to be interesting as I went into further research.
10 Trillion total cells
100 billion neurons
640 Muscles
360 Joints
206 Bones
All of the above manage to work together to help us complete every single activity that we encounter in our life.

I don't know about you, but it sounds like a work of art to me

Tatted

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of visiting my Tattoo artist Norman at his place of business. I usually make a trip there at least once a month with either me or one of my friends to get a tattoo. This time it was my turn to to under the needle. As i Lay there with ink flowing in to my skin as an exercise science major, I started thinking about how amazing the human body is. Now matter how many cuts, bruise, or breaks the body endures, it always find a way to repair itself as long as it is still alive. There really no way to explain to fully explain why or how it is able to repair itself, but it always does. I personally think that it's one of many amazing things that the Human Body can do, which is part of the reason why I chose to be an Exercise Science Major
